KROOMBIT CATTLE STATION

Tuesday morning I got back on the Oz Ex bus. Haywood and Charlie weren't leaving til Thursday which meant I was finally properly travelling on my own (and with the new people I met) which felt really good.
The journey was 11 hours long because we were headed to Kroombit - a cattle station in the outback. Our driver was pretty boring which made the journey seem longer. One of the stops along the way was to play lawn bowls (the old man's game) which was terribly exciting.
It was dark when we arrived. We had seen some kangaroos along the way which was cool, but everyone was worried about the creatures at Kroombit. There were frogs and toads jumping around everywhere, and spiders and insects so big that they looked like they were used in King Kong.

That evening we had a BBQ and then the activities began. First we (tried to) learn how to crack a whip. I gave up after a while because my arm was aching and I just kept whipping myself! Then we had a go on the mechanical bull. I managed to stay on for (a very impressive) 2 and 1/2 bucks! I was actually the second longest (John won with 5 bucks); everyone else just fell off on the first buck. It was very painful - just look where my hand is in the photos! Later we played some (non-drinking) games, some of which were fun, but others weren't great.

In the morning we got to do a few more activities. The first was clay pigeon shooting. I had never fired a gun before (except when playing Duck Hunt on the Nintendo of course). We only 5 shots and the wind was blowing hard which affected your aim. I managed to hit 1 out of 5 which I was well chuffed with considering a lot of people missed all of theirs. Natural born killer I guess.
We learnt how to use a lassoo which wasn't that fun, but the goat rodeo was quality. In teams of 3 you are put in a pin with a goat. You have to corner the goat; grab it by the horns; then grab its front and back legs on one sider; left them up and then turn it upside down; then pin it down whilst one of you uses the brander to pretend to burn a brand on its thigh.

Each team was timed because the idea is to see who does it the quickest. I went in with John and Hannah and we did it in 21 seconds which was the quickest time! We were a little concerned when the goat didn't get up straight away, but it was alright. Other teams took longer because the goat kept getting away from them.

After that we had lunch then got back on the Oz Ex bus to head to Hervey Bay, where we will do the Fraser Island trip.
