EDORAS

Okay, so I'm actually in Christchurch, New Zealand. I was so excited to final arrive here, coming to New Zealand is the reason I went traveling, Australia was just the fun warm up before hand. There's been a complete fuck up with my work visa, but hopefully it'll get sorted out.
I'll be coming back through Christchurch later on the Kiwi Experience, so I'll tell you all about the town then, because all I've had time for here is: the Lord of the Rings Tour to Mt Sunday, or as it's known in the films, Edoras.

There were 7 of us in a 4x4 van that drove for 3 hours up into the mountains, into the middle of nowhere. The location is so incredibly beautiful and awe inspiring, regardless of the fact the films were shot here. Nevertheless, to actually be in Edoras, after seeing it so many times in the films and on the DVDs, felt amazing.

The weather was beautiful, which was a relief, plus it wasn't windy at all, which is lucky because usually the valley acts as a wind tunnel and the get winds up to 180km per hour!

The guide told us a bit about the making of the set and filming there, most of the stuff was pretty much word for word from the DVDs. The tour had replica swords that we had fun taking our photos with, plus a replica of the flag that gets torn away by the wind in The Two Towers.

We had a champagne lunch, sitting in deck chairs looking at the view. As we started our journey back we stopped at a nearby lodge to pay the money, but they also had one of the hobbit's cloaks actually used in the films, so I got a photo taken with it on which looks really, really daft.
